At the 2015 FIFA World Cup in Vancouver, our co-founder Erin McLeod, alongside her teammates on the Canadian women’s national soccer team, faced a striking inequality. Despite being Olympic medalists, the team was wearing hand-me-downs from the men’s team. This disparity highlighted the broader issue of gender inequality in sports—a problem that extends beyond the pitch and into the very fabric of sports culture.
Determined to effect change, we at PDL took action. Collaborating with Musqueam artist Deborah Sparrow, we created custom suits for the national women’s team. This bold move was not just about attire; it was about making a statement, challenging norms, and celebrating diversity. By outfitting the team in suits, we made history and brought attention to the inequities female and non-binary athletes face.

Despite the growing popularity and achievements of women’s sports, there remains a glaring issue: the lack of well-fitting, stylish, and meaningful merchandise for womxn’s sports fans. Most existing options are ill-fitting, uninspired, and do not resonate with the true spirit of womxn’s sports enthusiasts. This gap in the market underscores a broader issue of gender inequality in sports—a reality that became all too clear during a pivotal moment in our journey.
we believe it’s about damn time that womxn’s sports receive the recognition, respect, and support they deserve.
The lack of appropriate merchandise for womxn’s sports fans is more than just a market oversight—it’s a reflection of the broader societal issues of gender inequality. By offering well-fitting, stylish, and meaningful merchandise, we aim to empower womxn’s sports fans and athletes alike. We strive to create products that not only fit well but also resonate with the passion and dedication of womxn’s sports enthusiasts.
Our collaboration with Team Canada or directly athletes like Erin McLeod, Olympic Speed Skater Anastasia Bucis, Charline Labonte and PWHL player Carly Jackson is few examples of how we’re working to bring attention to these issues and make a tangible impact. We are committed to continuing this work and pushing for greater gender equality in sports.
